International ADAC Herkules Hill Cup
for historic race cars and motorbikes
8th -10th June, 2007
Between 1923 and 1927 one of Germany`s most famous and nicest hill climbs for race cars and motorbikes was the Herkules Hill Race, held in Kassel in the greatest park of Europe. It featured very famous drivers of the time such as Rudolf Caracciola, Karl Kappler, Carl Joerns and Fritz Rosenberger. The race resumed again between 1951 and 1954, but this time it was reborn as a speciality event for motorcycles, with an attendance of over 80.000 spectators.
After 51 years in hibernation the Herkules Hill Cup sprang back into life in summer 2005 over the original historic roads. More than 25.000 people filled with enthusiasm enjoyed the different cars and bikes (for example Austin, Bentley, BMW, Bugatti, MG, Riley, Talbot, Mercedes, Opel, Simson, Rudge and Norton).
Opel sent all racing cars of the Opel Museum in Rüsselsheim. The 55 drivers talking part included several famous names such as Jochen Maass, Jochen Berger and Dr. Mander.
They were full of praise for the organisation and the facilities at the event, made even more special because it was held in one of the most scenic parts of Germany and everywhere you heard the name "German Goodwood".
At the awards ceremony, German Finance Minister, Hans Eichel, thanked the organizers Dr. Dietrich Krahn and Dipl.-Ing. Heinz Jordan and told the audience he would support efforts to make the Herkules Hill Cup a regular annual event.
The two organizers said without the help of sponsors like Opel and Mercedes, they could never make this weekend the success it was. With the sponsor`s money it was possible to plant 75 great trees and about 140 bushes in the park. The press acceptance in Germany was on a very high level. The news like the Frankfurter Allgemeine and the Oldtimer Markt printed reports about the event. There were at total of 5 films on German tv.
For 2007 there is now planed one of the greatest racing events for historic cars and bikes in Germany. The date is from the 8th to the 10th of June 2007. The organisers reckon there will be more than 60.000 spectators, because the start will be in the city of Kassel as in 1923 to 1927.
All the previous sponsors are happy to support the event again. Others like Fulda Tyres Germany are new ones. The plan for 2007 is to plant more trees in the park than 2005.
The Herkules Hill Park is nominated for UNESCO`s list of world cultural monuments. If the park is listed in the future, the racetrack will gain world status as an object of cultural value.
