![]() In the De Dion Club everybody knows this car. This is the last existing example of the "Big V8 Series" of De Dion. The company De Dion was the "Number 1" Company in the world when they produced and used V8 engines in their cars.
We possess few historical documents about this car, but its story is very interesting, exciting and also logical. We know this about the car: It was ordered by a New York customer (some people say he was a mayor of New York) in the year 1912. Transportation by ship was quite normal, but because the car arrived in New York without any oil, petrol or water we can only deduce this owed to very strong government rules.
On arrival in New York the staff filled oil, petrol and water in the engine but they neglected to lubricate the gearbox. After about 300 miles the gears failed but they never complained about this. No- this car goes into a parking room. The car was in a museum as early 1924 and toured various different US museums up to the 60`s. At the end of the 60`s it was bought by a French guy from Reims for his little museum, but after few years he sold it again to the present owner. His comment: "Everything was old, nothing was beautiful, but I saw that this car was perfectly unused and even sported some brand-new parts".
The crashed gears were still there, but today it was only a small problem to change some cog-wheels. (also it was interesting to see on the cog-wheels the date and the signature of the mechanical staff). They selected the gear and replaced the damaged cogs with new ones. This was the first Classic Car of its new owner, so he invested all his energy to refresh the car. After finishing this "car project" the workers at the upholstery company were so tired, they swore never to renovate another classic car. It was a very complicated and time consuming affair to fix up this car and to change the leather inside. This car must be the best and most beautiful example of its type. And also the safest - there is even a mechanism to save it from car-thieves. It is also very good to drive and safe, reminding us more of a car of the 20`s rather than one made in 1912. This car has only driven 3600 km ! This is a well restored vehicle. The Beijing Company Hua De Feng Ying offers this vehicle for sale.
