![]() This Fiat Balilla is a special vehicle. In the year 1934 Fiat presented the 508S "Balilla Sport" as a sports car for private driving as well as competitions. So also 1933 at the Tour of Germany (2000km). Fiat management had not estimated the potential of this car, born as a "car for everybody". The car was very light, with a 30 horsepower engine - not much by todays standards. Sport versions were only 36 HP. But the car was very fast as it was such a lightweight. A very good chassis made this the perfect little race-car. ![]() Historic victories at "Coppa D`oro" and "Mille Miglia" made the car a favourite and many people - especially Italians, look back with pride at this time. In 1936 Fiat Italy sent this car to Fiat Great Brittain with a 1100cc engine. It was considered a "rocket" in its time. The owner was to be famous race driving lady Mrs.Elsie Wisdom. Her husband was an equally famous motoring journalist. Mrs. Wisdom drove many races with this car. She was very successful, winning a number of races. 1936 she was No.3 with the fastest speed of 75.12 miles per hour at Brooklands Racetrack in England. ![]() In 1962 Mr.George Liston Young earned a certificate for a driving record with this car. In 1964 Mr. Young changed the engine to a 995 cc engine. With this engine he drove 421 rounds at the Goodwood circuit. This was 1000 Miles with many turns. His average was 55.52 mph and the fastest speed was 65.5 mph - and this in driving rain with winds of up to 40 knots. Why did he change the engine? Mr.Young worked for Fiat England and this action was an advertisement for Fiat. They wanted to show people that a Fiat car is much better than any another car of the same size. From 1993 the owner was a German private collector. This car was bought to use in Classical Car races but was never used. This Car is a well restored vehicle.
